The Genomic Science program’s long-term vision is to advance new AI/ML capabilities to detect and understand patterns across large complex datasets. These capabilities—combined with foundational systems biology—will enable discoveries, accelerate predictive biological understanding, automate laboratory systems and processes, and rapidly advance biosystems design capabilities and new bioinspired research.
In 2025, the Genomic Science program funded several AI pilot projects across DOE national laboratories to integrate AI capabilities into systems biology, structural biology, and imaging research. Many of these projects are foundational to the BER Data Lakehouse collaboration.
