Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and high-performance computing are poised to transform biological research, spurring innovation in biotechnology and biosystems design. To better understand the opportunities and basic research needs at the interface of AI and biology, the Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR) and Biological and Environmental Research (BER) programs in the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science organized a workshop on February 4–6, 2025, exploring research intersections between BER and ASCR that will harness the power of AI and exascale computing to advance biotechnology.
