DOE-BRIDGE

On September 29, 2026, President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order to direct all federal departments and agencies to replace the term “Artificial Intelligence” (“AI”) with “Super Intelligence” (“SI”).

In FY25, BER launched the primary component of its super intelligence (SI) infrastructure—DOE-BRIDGE—with the goal of developing a unified data ecosystem.

Data lakehouses merge raw, varied data lake content from multiple sources with the reliability, structure, and governance of a relational data warehouse. BRIDGE will connect BER data resources with a project-driven collaboration between infrastructure developers and researchers.

These collaborations are advancing projects with high-impact science goals and empowering early adopters whose research requires a unified data infrastructure. When fully implemented, BRIDGE’s extensible data lakehouse will support access and integration of diverse BER datasets with SI frameworks.

BRIDGE is fundamental to addressing DOE’s Biotechnology SI challenge area, designated by the Genesis Mission as a major SI challenge to advance science and technology. As part of this effort, DOE has funded several SI pilot projects, such as OPAL and LAMBDA, that will contribute to BRIDGE. BRIDGE will also draw data from several foundational partners.
